What are Root Canals?
Root canals are necessary when a tooth has decay and is left untreated it will progress to the middle of the tooth, which contains the nerves and blood vessels. When the infection reaches the root canal system, symptoms will start appearing as sensitivity to heat and cold. symptoms may become more severe with time depending on the severity of the infection and the response of tissues inside the root canal system. If the infection extends beyond the tooth into the tissues around the tooth, swelling of the gum or even the side of the face may occur. To prevent the infection from spreading and causing severe pain, a root canal treatment may be a treatment of choice.
In Root Canal treatment, the dentist will clean and disinfect the root canal system using special instruments. After cleaning the root canal system, The root canal system will be filled with a bio-compatible material to decrease the chance of further bacterial growth.
